Entry by: Irongeek, but thanks to Nir. Information appears in this folder most often when a program crashes and parts of the open files are moved to this directory - it it is very large, then you may be having a lot of crashes.
What are the dates on the temp files and are they complete files or just file fragments you can tell by trying to open them and see if they do if they have valid file types? Did they all occur at approximately the same time or did they occur over a longer period of time? I don't know why these files would suddenly appear in the temp folder if they haven't been used in 10 years - I can think of nothing in Vista that would cause that to happen automatically.
Perhaps someone actually did open them without your knowledge though it would have to be an administrator to gain access to the source files unless they knew your username and password. Open the Documents folder the source of these sensitive files and click on the titles bar and then click on more. Check Date Accessed.
